There will be a time in your driving life when you breakdown in your car. But, what should you do then? Here are just a few things to consider when you have stopped at the road side.

Stopping safely is always a good point. All cars have warning lights, use them to inform other motorists either behind you or on the other side of the road that you are in trouble and are stopping. Always try to pick a safe place to stop. Turning off the main road is a good idea if you can or just stop on the road.

You could get out and display you’ve broken down by displaying a warning triangle behind your car. About 45 metres should do it. You must never do this on the motorway though.

If you are on the motorway always try to leave before stopping if you can, but if you cannot, just pullover on the hard shoulder, and keep as far left as you can to avoid traffic.

Put your hazard lights on to make it visible to other drivers. Always get out of the car from the passenger side. It is much safer this way to avoid on coming traffic. Plus, never stay in your vehicle on the motorway, as it is much safer. So walk up the grass verge and call for help and ring a breakdown service to arrange pickup.

Repossessed motorhomes are typically cheaper than brand new ones.  These are units once owned by others and because of failure to pay the monthly amortization, the bank or the financing company has no choice but the repossess the unit.  Others are deliberately unpaid by owners to be repossessed.

Finding repossessed motorhomes for sale at an auction is a great find to begin with.  Most repos advertised in classified ads, televisions, and internet or even in craigslist are somewhat overpriced.  In motorhome auctions, the unit’s price could go down to as much as 50% of what display centers or other dealers offer.

Searching your local RV classified ads is one way of knowing of schedules for used motorhome auctions.  Sometimes, banks and other financial institutions would advertise reposessed motorhome auctions every now and then. It is advisable to attend first and observe without bidding anything just for you to have the feel about auctions.  But if you have a friend who is experienced with auctions, you may want him to do the bidding for you.

When you are at an auction sale, be sure to pay attention to the following details:

1. Find out first their preferred way for you to pay in case you win the bidding – whether they prefer for to pay in full or they would settle for a deposit.  If in full, ask if you can pay in checks or would they accept cards.

2. Auctions always sell their items in an “as-is” condition.  It means that once you bought it, you cannot return it.  If possible, inspect the motorhome to be auctioned.  If you are not knowledgeable in this area, bring a friend who knows about a motorhome.  In case that auction organizers would allow inspections of items before the auction time, come early.

3. Determined beforehand the ceiling of your bid.  This is based on the unit’s original price plus its depreciation value (for this, you really need an advise).  This knowledge will protect you from bidding at an item not worth the price or from overbidding.
